Visiting (non-U.S.) Fulbright Scholars

Fulbright International Scholars should consult the Institute of International Education (IIE) website for information on finding a sponsor at a U.S. university. Departments are encouraged to assist prospective scholars with their IIE applications but must also follow the steps below to complete an official invitation on behalf of the University of Florida (UF).

For more information about the IIE application process, please consult the IIE website and Fulbright Scholar Program website.

Inviting Non-U.S. Fulbright Scholars

Step 1

Request RISC Approval

The first step in inviting a Fulbright Scholar to UF (separate from their IIE application) is to obtain approval from UF’s Research, Integrity, Security, and Compliance (RISC) office. Please follow the instructions provided by UF Research website.

Step 2

Create a UFID and Submit an IRF

After RISC approval, create a UFID for the scholar and complete an International Research Form (IRF). Send the completed form to EVS@ufic.ufl.edu.

Note: Sponsoring departments serve as the host for visiting scholars.

Step 3

Issue the Offer Letter

Once RISC approval has been received and the UFID number created, use the offer letter template to issue the official invitation letter.

Step 4

Submit Final IRF to UFIC

Please ensure the final IRF is submitted to EVS@ufic.ufl.edu so the UF International Center (UFIC) can maintain a record of all Fulbright visitors hosted by UF.

Step 5

Scholar Check-In Upon Arrival

Once the scholar arrives, remind them to contact EVS@ufic.ufl.edu to schedule an in-person check-in and orientation with UFIC.

Step 6

Visiting (non-U.S.) scholars come to the University of Florida from abroad to pursue their educational and professional goals. They apply in their home country, and their entry arrangements are supervised by Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) and other affiliated Fulbright programs.

International scholars should consult the CIES website for information about how to find a sponsor in a U.S. university. Departments wishing to sponsor a visiting (non-U.S.) scholars, should also consult CIES.

Notification of award to a visiting (non-U.S.) Fulbright scholar must be sent by UF Faculty Sponsor to Luis Johnson at lfjohnson@ufic.ufl.edu. Sponsoring departments serve as hosts to the visiting scholars.

All visiting (non-U.S.) scholars must check in at the University of Florida International Center through the Exchange Visitor Services by appointment only.

Review the offer letter template for your Fulbright Visitors.

Important Notes

  • All international Fulbright scholars must check in with the UF International Center upon arrival by emailing EVS@ufic.ufl.edu

  • The Fulbright Program does not automatically notify UFIC of visitor placements. Therefore, it is the responsibility of host departments to submit the IRF and ensure UFIC has a record of all Fulbright visitors hosted by UF.

  • All Fulbright students and scholars are welcome to join the North Florida Chapter of the Fulbright Association.
