On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the world lost a beacon of hope and conscience with the passing of Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr., aged 84. Throughout his life, he championed justice with courage, conviction, and a deep commitment to humanity.

Reverend Jackson dedicated his life to justice for the oppressed, the marginalized, and all who sought freedom and opportunity. His work transcended borders, cultures, and generations. He tirelessly advocated for civil rights in the United States and promoted democratic governance and human rights across Africa and the international community. In every effort, he stood firmly for humanity.

Among his lasting contributions was his pivotal role in the 2000 passage of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which significantly reshaped U.S.–Africa economic relations. Through his leadership and ability to unite diverse voices, Reverend Jackson opened new opportunities for trade, investment, and shared prosperity. AGOA remains a testament to his belief that economic empowerment is central to human freedom.

In 2023, at AfrICANDO in Miami, Florida, The Foundation for Democracy in Africa presented Reverend Jackson with the Medal of Glory Award (MOGA). This honor recognized his decades of service and the significant impact of his work. It celebrated a leader whose voice carried moral authority, whose actions inspired change, and whose legacy continues to influence the pursuit of justice and equality worldwide.

Today, as we reflect on his passing, we honor a life defined by purpose and passion.
