Visa Process

After receiving your form DS-2019, you must next obtain the J visa to enter the US. EVS will email you detailed instructions for applying for your visa when your DS-2019 is issued. The basic visa application process is outlined below. 

  1. Pay I-901 SEVIS Fee ($220) 
  2. Complete form DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application 
  3. Schedule your visa interview at a US Embassy or Consulate in your home country or country of residence.   
  4. Pay visa application fee ($185) 
  5. Attend your interview 

Do not make final travel plans until your J-1 visa has been issued. 

Are you a Canadian citizen? Canadian citizens are not required to obtain a visa to enter the US. However, you must still pay the I-901 SEVIS fee and present your DS-2019 at the port of entry.
