Virtual Exchange/COIL Design & Facilitation


The Office of Global Learning (OGL) offers professional development on virtual exchange (VE)/COIL design and facilitation for graduate students and instructors, including international partners who are collaborating with a UF faculty member on a VE/COIL project. Self-paced and cohort-based programs are available, all offered completely online.

Virtual Exchange: The Basics is estimated to take 3.5 hours total and focuses on the foundational elements needed to understand and implement virtual exchange. It is available for UF faculty, their virtual exchange partners, and UF graduate students/TAs.

All participants will receive a digital badge upon successful completion of the program. This training counts for 250 miles toward the Global Teaching and Learning Certificate or CTE Passport to Great Teaching Program.

Designing a Virtual Exchange is a 5-week course for UF faculty and their VE/COIL partners, in which they receive step-by-step guidance as they develop their VE/COIL projects together.


All participants will receive a digital badge upon completion of the program. UF faculty will receive $500 in professional development funds pending budgetary approval. This training counts for 500 miles toward the Global Teaching and Learning Certificate.

Virtual Exchange Training for Graduate Students is an 8-hour training taking place over six weeks, in which participants learn how to integrate international experiential learning into their on-campus teaching and explore innovative active learning techniques that can be used to enhance any course.


All participants will receive a digital badge upon successful completion of the program. This training counts for 250 miles toward the CTE Passport to Great Teaching Program.
