Data-Driven Decision Making Across Borders

Project Description:

The students conducted a text and sentiment analysis of low scoring reviews at an industry that they selected from Trustpilot. They created a PowerPoint presentation and recorded a video. They were to answer questions about why customers were dissatisfied, how customers felt about the products and services they used, emotions and perceptions across the countries and cultures and how the country in which the  business operates might influence customer satisfaction.

Sequence of Activities:
  • Icebreaker: The students introduced themselves in a discussion board.
  • Engagement Activity: The students completed a team agreement about how they planned to work together and what technologies they would use.
  • Collaboration Activity: The students conducted a sentiment analysis of low scored reviews at an industry that they selected from Trustpilot. They created a PowerPoint presentation and recorded a video.
  • Reflection activity: Please consider the following three descriptions of cultural self-awareness, verbal and nonverbal communication, and openness.
    • Cultural Self-awareness: Awareness of your own cultural rules and biases. Awareness can be shown by simply identifying your own cultural rules and biases or even describing them in detail and with high complexity.
    • Verbal and nonverbal communication: Awareness of different cultural perspectives of communication from a minimal to complex level.
    • Curiosity: Interest in another culture. Interest can be shown by asking simple to complex questions about another culture.

Now, reflect on these definitions and give an example of how these components of intercultural competence were involved in this project. Each component should have 150 words.
