Spain is often imagined as a place where Jews exist only in the past, a community remembered in history but absent from the present. In this informal talk, Dr. Aaron shared fieldwork with Barcelona's Reform Jewish community, where many people describe discovering or claiming their Jewishness only later in life, shaped by the long shadow of the 1492 expulsion that left ancestry uncertain or unknowable.
