The theme for this FAMILY-FOCUSED celebration is Intergenerational Unity! Kwanzaa is a non-religious, Pan-African holiday created in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga to celebrate family, community, and culture. Its purpose is to help African Americans, and those wishing to celebrate with them have a connection to their African roots and heritage.
Kwanzaa is a seven-day celebration modeled after the traditional African harvest celebrations. It is celebrated from December 26 through January 1. Each day's celebration is based on one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa, known as Nguzo Saba.
