UF/ IFAS Field and Fork Program is hosting a lunch and learn discussion with Malik Yakini on Jan 25th from 11:30-1pm. You can come for the whole thing or just a bit. The goal is to have a dialogue about food justice and urban agriculture to spark ideas, increase dialogue, and generate collaboration with a Nationally-renowned leader and organizer, Malik Yakini.

Malik Yakini is a nationally-renowned leader in the movement for Food Justice. He is the co-founder and Executive Director of the Detroit Black Community Food Security Network (DBCFSN). DBCFSN operates a seven-acre urban farm and is spearheads the Detroit People’s Food Co-op, a cooperatively grocery story in Detroit’s North End. Yakini views the work of DBCFSN as part of the larger movement for building power, self-determination, and justice. He is a co-founder of the National Black Food and Justice Alliance, a Senior Fellow, Arizona State University Swette Center for Sustainable Food Systems, and mentor with the National Good Food Network.

The event will take place on Jan 25th from 11:30-1pm here at the Field and Fork classroom. You are welcome to invite other students from UF to join, and I have attached a flyer you can share.
