PERMIAS Gainesville, an organization of Indonesian students who study at the University of Florida (UF), recently celebrated the 77th independence day of Indonesia. Indonesia’s independence was first established on August 17th, 1945. This year, the country raised the theme “Pulih Lebih Cepat, Bangkit Lebih Kuat” (Recover Faster, Rise Stronger), meaning that after the pandemic, COVID-19, for the last two years, all people should work together and strengthen each other. About 30 people, including UF students and Indonesians who live in Gainesville, gathered in Lake Wauburg to celebrate Indonesia’s independence day. All participants enjoyed Indonesian foods and traditional games commonly played during the celebration. The organization also welcomed several new Indonesian students starting their studies at UF for Fall 2022. Sharing international students’ experiences with each other is believed to decrease social isolation and anxiety. Student organizations like PERMIAS Gainesville, and other UF student organizations, will support members to achieve their academic and non-academic goals during their stay in Gainesville, as international students
