Monday, September 30, 2024 - 2:00pm to 5:00pm
Smathers Library, Judaica Suite, 2nd Floor

This special event marks the thirtieth anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Co-sponsored by the UF College of Law, the Bud Shorstein Center for Jewish Studies, and the Center for African Studies, the event is generously hosted by the Isser and Rae Price Library of Judaica. The anniversary provides an occasion to remember and learn lessons from the genocide, as well as to better understand the country’s development.

The University of Florida is honored to host Consolee Nishimwe, survivor of the genocide, who will speak on her personal experience. Prof Zachary Kaufman will provide analysis and lessons of the genocide. In the second half of the event, UF Profs Sarah McKune and Jorge Hernandez will discuss their current research in Rwanda, demonstrating the university’s role in addressing the country’s developmental challenges.
