Speakers: Dr. Danaya C. Wright (UF Levin College of Law), Dr. Riché J. Daniel Barnes (UF Anthropology Department) and Dr. Flora Iff-Noël (UF Classics Department)
Dr. Danaya C. Wright (UF Levin College of Law) will present the history of abortion in the United States, the current law, and possibilities for protecting reproductive rights through other clauses and mechanisms.
Dr. Riché J. Daniel Barnes (UF African American Studies and Department of Anthropology) will discuss the history of Black women and reproductive justice in the United States and the contemporary fight against Black maternal health disparities.
Dr. Flora Iff-Noël (UF Department of Classics) will present the history of contraception and abortion in France from WW2 to today, with a special focus on the figure of Simone Iff, who, as the president of the French branch of Planned Parenthood, was essential to the legalization of contraception and abortion in France.
