The University of Florida International Center (UFIC) invites students, faculty, staff and alumni to enter its annual international photography contest. There are three categories this year. Each entrant may submit up to two digital photos in only one chosen category. All photographs must portray the theme "Global Culture" and not display your use of alcohol, cigarettes, drugs or any inappropriate content or behavior. Unedited photos preferred, but minimally edited photos will be accepted. Showing your Global Gator spirit and wearing UF colors/emblem is always a plus.
In consideration for their participation in the Contest, entrants grant UFIC a non-exclusive license and permission to use the photos that are submitted as set forth below:
to copy, record, distribute, display, or modify, edit, or condense, in any form UFIC may choose; and to make the photos available in print, photograph, videotape, audiotape, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, slide presentations, online (Internet, website, FTP, streaming, social media, or otherwise), or by any technology or means now known or hereafter invented.
Entrants also grant permission to use their name, their photographic image, likeness, and biographical information through photograph, videotape, audiotape, or otherwise by any means now known or hereafter invented in connection with the program or other UFIC purposes or consistent with the mission of the University of Florida.
Entrants represent that they have the right to enter into this agreement and that the Photos are original to them and that they have permission to use them.
Instructions: Each entrant may submit up to two (2) digital photos in only one chosen category. All photographs must have been taken during Fall 2017, Spring 2018, or Summer 2018. Digital images must be uploaded using the online submission form here.
E-mail submissions or prints will not be accepted. Photos must not display your use of alcohol, cigarettes, drugs or any inappropriate content or behavior. Unedited photos are preferred, but minimally edited photos will be accepted.
Theme: All photographs must portray the theme "Global Culture". Inspiration may come from landscapes and cityscapes that impressed you, daily life scenes with unique perspectives, exciting cultural activities, a showcase of your major/discipline abroad, newsworthy matters you observed firsthand, moments that changed your worldview or your experiences leaving a positive mark in service, teaching or learning. Showing your Global Gator spirit is always a plus, so remember to wear the UF logo, orange and blue or the gator emblem!
Judges Criteria: Judges will look at technical merit, composition, and that the photo conveys a "Global Culture" message.
Photos Size/Resolution: The size of your digital photos must be at least 1500 x 1200 pixels, at a minimum of 150 DPI (to facilitate enlargements for exhibits), and no more than 20mb. Entries not meeting these requirements will be disqualified. DPI can be modified using InDesign, Photoshop, accessing http://convert.town/image-dpi or similar websites.
Deadlines: Submission period opens August 13, 2018. All entries must be received electronically by no later than October 5, 2018 at 12 midnight. Winners will be notified by October 19, 2018.
Awards: Judges will award a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each of three categories. 1st prize winners will each receive $100, 2nd prize winners will receive $50, 3rd prize winners will receive $25. Total prizes to be awarded: $525. UFIC reserves the right to modify the contest awards in accordance to UF policies and regulations.
Categories:
1) Study Abroad & Service Learning Students (UF connected): Open to UF students who have taken part in a UF study abroad, internship, research, service learning, volunteerism or mission trip programs in Fall 2017, Spring 2018, or Summer 2018. Photographs must have been taken during a trip abroad and reflect the contest theme of "Global Culture.” Showing your Global Gator spirit is always a plus, so remember to wear the UF logo, orange and blue or the gator emblem! Refer to “Theme” section for photo ideas.
2) International Students, Scholars & Employees (F-1, J-1, H-1B, TN, E-3, O-1): Open to current UF international students, scholars, faculty and employees on Visas listed above. Photographs must have been taken anywhere in the United States during Fall 2017, Spring 2018, or Summer 2018 and reflect the theme of "Global Culture." 3) Faculty, Staff & Alumni: Open to current or retired University of Florida faculty and staff, as well as UF alumni. Photographs must have been taken during a trip abroad during Fall 2017, Spring 2018, or Summer 2018 and reflect the theme of "Global Culture."
