There will be presentations (in English) by Dr. Katalin Franciska Rac (Center for Jewish Studies, University of Florida), and Dr. Aysun Yaşar (Faculty of Theology, University of Basel). This workshop will be moderated by Dr. Katja Thörner (EZIRE, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg).
This interdisciplinary workshop analyzes the concepts of reform and Iğmāʾ in the works of the Hungarian Jewish Orientalist, a founder of Islamic Studies in Europe Ignaz Goldziher (1850-1921). Dr. Katalin Franciska Rac (Center for Jewish Studies, University of Florida) proposes a historical reading, Dr. Aysun Yaşar (Faculty of Theology, University of Basel) offers a theological reading of Goldziher’s selected works.
Following the presentations, the moderator Dr. Katja Thörner (Erlangen Centre for Islam and Law in Europe, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg) will comment and pose questions reenforcing the event's focus on dialogue. Questions from interested participants are kindly invited and warmly welcome.
