This sweeping biography traces the extraordinary life of Peter Matthiessen (1927–2014), a novelist, naturalist, explorer, Zen teacher, and co-founder of The Paris Review. In True Nature, Richardson reconstructs Matthiessen’s restless search for meaning, his role in shaping modern environmental literature, and his ability to see connections between the natural world and human experience.
