To kick off this series we're excited to introduce Dr. Carolyn Fornoff (Cornell University) as our inaugural speaker. Dr. Fornoff who examines how cultural responses to violence against Indigenous land defenders in Mexico move beyond reverent, martyr-centered portrayals. Her talk highlights irreverent and playful aesthetic modes that depict land defenders as desiring and rageful subjects, expanding how resistance, grief, and agency are imagined in contemporary Mexican culture.
