Virtual Exchange in Global Health: Dengue Fever in Peru

This Global Health Virtual Exchange offers a unique opportunity for students to collaborate with peers from Centro Universitário Christus (Unichristus) in Brazil to address the global health challenge of Dengue. Students will engage in a cross-cultural learning experience, gaining insights into public health challenges and solutions from both a Global Health and One Health perspective.

Intercultural Perspectives on Sustainability Solutions

In this project students will investigate a specific sustainability challenge and solution of their choice as it is embedded in their local context. They will work in small groups to choose a topic of relevance to them, then work to investigate the specific cultural, economic, social, and environmental aspects where each student lives, respectively. Then, they will use this information to synthesize a blog entry which informs the public on this topic.

Virtual Exchange Sharing Public Health Issues and Cultures

This Virtual Exchange course, which spans a period of four weeks, offers a unique opportunity to delve into the realm of Public Health while fostering cultural competencies and global collaboration. In this immersive program, students will gain a deeper understanding of the innovative methods of communication needed to address health challenges in diverse global communities. By participating in this exchange, students will not only broaden their public health knowledge but also recognize the impact of culture on health outcomes.

International Perspectives on Culturally Responsive Care as Evidence-based Care

This virtual exchange brought together aspiring speech-language pathologists from the University of Florida and the University of Galway in Ireland for an examination of cultural competence in their chosen profession and some lively discussion on the similarities and differences between the two countries and their people. The faculty both wove coursework focused on strategies for delivering culturally responsive care into their curriculum, including selected readings, self-reflection activities and use of Hofstede’s Six Dimensions of National Culture Theory and Country Comparison Tool.
