Dr. Marta Wayne, Dean and Associate Provost of the University of Florida International Center (UFIC), has been elected to serve a three-year term on the Executive Committee of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) Commission on International Initiatives (CII). Her term will begin following the 2025 APLU Annual Meeting, to be held November 9–11 in Philadelphia and continue through the 2028 Annual Meeting.
The CII Executive Committee provides leadership and guidance on APLU’s international engagement strategies, helping member institutions strengthen global partnerships, expand international education opportunities, and advance research collaborations worldwide.
Dr. Wayne brings extensive experience in academic leadership and global engagement to the committee. As Dean and Associate Provost of the UF International Center, she has overseen university-wide initiatives such as the creation of a global engagement dashboard, expanded research opportunities abroad for students and postdoctoral scholars, and fostered record levels of undergraduate participation in Study Abroad programs.
“Dean Wayne’s election to the APLU Commission on International Initiatives reflects her exceptional leadership and her deep commitment to advancing global engagement in higher education,” said Joe Glover, UF interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Her vision and experience will help create opportunities that prepare students to thrive in an interconnected world”.
The APLU Commission on International Initiatives convenes higher education leaders to shape strategies that address global challenges through teaching, research, and outreach. The Executive Committee meets monthly and plays a key role in setting priorities for the Commission’s annual and summer meetings.
Last year, the University of Florida received a 2024 International Impact Award for Global Teaching & Learning from APLU. The award recognizes innovative, high-impact efforts to expand global learning on campus and with international partners. UF was honored for advancing access to global learning experiences through its International Scholars Program, which offers study abroad alternatives that do not require cross-border travel—expanding opportunities for first-generation and low-income students.
