The UF International Center is proud to announce that nearly a dozen new study abroad programs are set to take place between December 2026 - January 2027, UF’s Winter Break.

In 2021, UF extended its Winter Break term to be one week longer for students, paving the way for a new era of study abroad programming. Winter Break programs, much like Spring Break, will be short-term but high-impact, allowing students to make the most of their time between terms, explore a new location, and earn academic credit. “Global J”, short for Global January Term, is the acronym that has been developed to categorize and brand these programs.

Some of the exciting new programs that will be offered during the 2026-27 academic year include:

  • UF in Antarctica – The Frozen Continent
  • UF in Brazil – Developing Innovative Housing Solutions with AI
  • UF in Cape Town – Education and Innovation in the Western Cape
  • UF in Estonia – Data Storytelling in a Digital Nation
  • UF in Ireland – Narrative Landscapes, Storytelling, and Irish Myths
  • UF in Japan – Nature & Culture
  • UF in New Zealand – Learning Resilience Through Nature and Culture
  • UF in Puerto Rico – Creativity and Community
  • UF in Scandinavia – Nordic Sustainability and Design Innovation
  • UF in the Cayman Islands – Realizing Design for Reef Resilience

These programs span a wide range of academic disciplines and colleges, including the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering, the College of Agricultural & Life Sciences, and the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. UF in Antarctica is actively accepting applications; the others are in various stages of development and will open applications soon.
