On April 2, 2019, UFIC hosted a discussion about the western liberal democratic world order put in place at the end of WWII based on strong transatlantic alliances among nations aspiring to be politically free and economically prosperous and interconnected by these values rather than continuously separated and traumatized by the ravages of war (as had been the case in Europe for centuries). The United Nations, NATO, and the European Union all grew out of and are connected in different ways to these shared aspirations.

Professor Muthusami Kumaran Receives a U.S. Fulbright Scholar Award

Dr. Muthusami Kumaran (Dr. K), Family, Youth & Community Science Associate Professor of Nonprofit Management & Community Organizations has just received the 2019-2020 Core Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award to South Korea. He becomes the first FYCS faculty to go abroad as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar. This Award further solidifies Dr. K’s international reputation as an expert and scholar in nonprofit/NGO management.

UF Delegation Attends Women and Gender in Development Conference 2019

A dynamic delegation was recently at the Women and Gender in Development Conference 2019 held at Virginia Tech where graduate students and staff represented the University of Florida. They gave one of the keynote addresses on "The SDG Gender Equality Agenda and the Distribution of Land". Audrey Smith won an Honorable Mention for her poster in the poster competition.

Hello fellow gators! My name is Kinting Mui and I am a 2nd year Industrial and Systems Engineering. I am currently studying abroad at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University(PolyU). I chose Hong Kong because I have not been to Asia since the age of 2 and it was a great way to practice my Cantonese while getting to know more of my Chinese culture. Spring 2019 marked the first authentic Chinese New Year I have ever celebrated in my 20 years of life. I had the entire week off and I spent it in Guangzhou, China with my only aunt that is left on this continent. Gilman International Scholarship Program in the academic year 2017-2018. Fulbright Awareness Month 2019

UFIC at The Florida International Leadership Conference

Five students and two UFIC staff members attended the Florida International Leadership Conference in Lake Placid representing the University of Florida. FILC connects international and study abroad students while enhancing their personal leadership skills. They also learn how to see themselves as global leaders of the future. Kudos to Amila Tica and Carolyn Cesarotti for co-leading and making this conference a true success for 150 domestic and international students from more than 15 different Florida colleges and universities.

UF in Haiti Study Abroad Program

The days started with breakfast as a group, and then a bumpy 30-minute van ride through rough dirt roads leading them to a hard day of work in the field in Haiti. Together with a Haitian enumerator, University of Florida undergraduate students asked the Haitian community a question that desperately needed an answer: To what extent are water and hygiene behaviors mediated by water insecurity and cultural beliefs in Haiti?
