Dr. Karen Reed

Dr. Karen Reed, MSN, DHSc, RN, CNE, CNL, CRRN, Clinical Associate Professor, College of Nursing was selected as one of 31 nurses representing 5 countries, to attend the Global Advocacy Virtual Academy coordinated by Sigma, the international honor society of nursing. The six-week academy is designed to advance one's advocacy skill set for application in healthcare and policy development at the UN and globally.

The Transdisciplinary Participatory Research Exchange Program, led jointly by the University of Florida (UF) and Universidad Amazónica de Pando (UAP), has a clear mission: to empower the next generation of scientists to engage in transdisciplinary research aimed at addressing pressing societal challenges. Focusing on critical topics such as the green economy, environmental concerns, climate action, energy transition, and gender, this program creates a dynamic platform for collaborative research and cross-cultural experiences, bridging the gap between undergraduate students at UAP and graduate students at UF.

In Summer of 2021, the International Center hosted four Jordanian Fulbright scholars participating in the Fulbright Junior Faculty Development Program (JFDP), a ten-week intensive program focused on environmental sustainability. The program was developed to enhance scholars’ teaching and research skills, as well as establish long term institutional linkages.

UF was honored to host, once again, one of the scholars from Mutah University in Karak, Jordan, Dr. Mohammad Al-Qaralleh, who returned to the US recently and made a stop in the Gator Nation.

This past summer, Hana Elkady spent her time in Egypt completing her undergraduate studies through her Sustainability in The Built Environment Senior Capstone project. Egypt is a developing country located in Northeast Africa that connects Africa to the Middle East. It is also Hana Elkady home country in which she lived in until the age of seven and have returned to each summer. "No one has knowledge of the tap water quality in Egypt nor does anyone trust it enough to drink it" Elkady said.
