The International Center is proud of all the outstanding international students who presented and won during the UF Health Cancer Center Research Day 2023.

This event included a judged poster session with prizes for the top trainee posters, three-minute thesis presentations by our Predoctoral Award recipients, and a keynote presentation by Thomas Gajewski, M.D., Ph.D., a nationally renowned cancer researcher, titled “Mechanisms of response versus resistance to cancer immunotherapy.”

To continue our ongoing MOU between the University of Florida and the University of Cuenca, the Dean of the College of Design Construction and Planning, Dr. Chimay Anumba, and Assistant Professor of the School of Architecture, Dr. Karla Saldana Ochoa, visited Cuenca this month. On January 25, the Reitz North Lawn was abuzz with students, faculty, and staff alike at our latest Study Abroad Fair! Approximately 70 different departments, programs, and outside providers participated in the Fair, all with a shared goal of highlighting the many study abroad options and resources available to UF students. Those tabling included the Colleges of Agricultural & Life Sciences, Liberal Arts & Sciences, Engineering, Business, and Health & Human Performance, among others! UFIC looks forward to hosting our next Study Abroad Fair in October 2023.

The Fall 2022 Virtual Exchange Training gathered UF faculty members and international faculty partners for a five-week online course. Participants attended synchronous sessions and collaborated in the development of an international virtual exchange module for their courses. Through these modules, students at UF will virtually collaborate on class projects and activities with their peers around the world.

This past December, the North Florida Chapter Fulbright Association organized a fun and successful outing for members and families. The Christmas Festival in Downtown Alachua was the place of reunion where attendees enjoyed a small town holiday atmosphere, met "Santa Claus" and walked around to see beautiful Christmas lights displays. The group was also treated to chili and hot cocoa at Dr. Karen Reed's home.

Interviews with Latinx students from Miami-Dade County illuminate nuance and commonalities — but no singular ‘Latino experience’

In the fall of 2017, 3,3621 undergraduate students from Miami-Dade County started the semester at the University of Florida. Sofi-Nicole Barreiro, a freshman pursuing political science and Latin American Studies, was one of them.
