The UF International Center recently welcomed Dr. Alejandro Yepjen Ramos, Director of the Archaeology School at the Universidad Nacional de Trujillo (UNT), Peru. His visit aimed to strengthen the partnership between UF and UNT, explore new academic collaborations, and expand opportunities for student exchange under the active Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions.

For Jess Mercier, travel was never a given - it was a choice that changed everything. Born in Indiana and raised in South Carolina, she didn’t grow up in a family that traveled much. However her participation in Semester at Sea as an undergraduate student opened her eyes to the world and quickly turned her international curiosity into a calling.

Today, Jess serves as the Assistant Director of Outreach & Marketing for UF Study Abroad, where she helps inspire students to take their first steps toward transformative international experiences. University of Florida alumna Alayna Dean (B.S. in Microbiology and Cell Science, Minor in International Studies, Class of 2024) is currently serving as a Community Health Peace Corps Volunteer in Homa Bay County, Kenya. Since beginning her service in September 2024, Alayna has been working closely with her community to strengthen local health through education on HIV/AIDS prevention and maternal health, including antenatal and postnatal care. One of the most exciting initiatives she is co-leading is the Refurbishment of a Youth Empowerment Center, a project designed to create new opportunities for education, health, and skills development for youth in the region.

Dr. David Siroky, Professor and Field Chair of International Relations in the Department of Political Science at the University of Florida, has been named one of this year’s recipients of the Stanley Hoffmann Best Article Award, presented jointly by the Association Française de Science Politique and the American Political Science Association.

The award recognizes his co-authored article, “Containing Nationalism: Culture, Economics and Indirect Rule in Corsica” (Comparative Political Studies, 2021), as one of the best English-language articles on French politics published in the past two years.
