Kole Odutola was born in Lagos, Nigeria, but now is a citizen of the world. From a career that evolved almost accidentally with a borrowed camera, Kole Odutola transformed himself from a graduate of Botany into a street photographer when his snapshots of everyday life led him to the curious power of the image. He continued to photograph until his work caught the eye of a magazine publisher who hired him to shoot pictures of Lagos for daily publication. Gainesville, FL (11/12/19) –The University of Florida International Center (UFIC) is pleased to announce the recipients of the Research Abroad for Doctoral Students (RADs). All RADs recipients will be recognized during the annual International Education Week reception on Monday, November 18 at 5:30 PM at the UF Keene Faculty Center.

 

The RADs program provides support to doctoral candidates in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines to conduct an extended period of their dissertation research at a foreign laboratory or field-site. Vinicius Martinson, an international student from Brazil, is a computer engineering student at the University of Florida. He was selected to moderate a panel in Boston for BRASA Summit, the largest Brazilian student conference in North America. Among other moderators from MIT and Harvard, Vinicius moderated a panel with IBM President (Latin America), VTex CEO and Vice-President of Technology and Research of Albert Einstein Hospital (most prestigious hospital in Brazil).

Vinicius was honored and proud to represent UF. Go Gators!

“Nooks and Crannies in Oyster Clusters and their Species Diversity”

Interstitial spaces between structures are used by prey species as a refuge and this affects the predator-prey interactions and local species diversity. To experimentally test this hypothesis, Kim will be artificially creating structures with different space morphologies to see how those various shapes of spaces can affect the species colonization over time. His presentation focused on the processes of preparing the experiment as well as results.

The PAIR award selects personalities that contribute to celebrating, fostering and promoting Italian-American relations and inspire others with their work. This summer, professor Tiza Garland taught a combined combat and movement workshop for students at the Free State Arts Festival and later taught 3 different multi-session workshops throughout a week at the University of the Free State. The workshops included a Consent Culture workshop, a stage combat workshop, and a Laban & Chekhov workshop. This opportunity was a very unique experience for the students and provided them with professional training that is rare in their country.

The experience was a success and the professor has been asked to consider returning to teach more workshops, or possibly perform, at the Free State Arts Festival and to return to do more multi-session...

The highly successful "UF in Paris (Readdressing the Masterpieces of Paris)", a study abroad program led by Professor Richard Heipp of the School of Art + Art History culminated in an exhibit at a local art gallery to showcase the work they did while participating in the program. Recontextualizing the Masterpieces of Paris Exhibition took place at WARPHaus Gallery on Friday, August 30th.

The show included a variety of media and approaches including classical drawing, photography, painting, collage, assemblage, and sculpture.
